Brickmania 2021 Veteran and Active Service Member Spotlight: Ben Blake

For November 2021 Brickmania has elected to spotlight several deserving individuals who are military veterans or active service members and part of the military LEGO community. Our goal is to show those new to this community that it is supportive and welcoming, and that no one is alone.

We’re also working in conjunction with the Minnesota Military Family Foundation to raise money all month long to support service families in need. For more info, click HERE.

Today’s spotlight is: Ben Blake

First, I just want to say thank you for the opportunity. I have fallen in love with Brickmania and the sets you all produce. Lego has always been super therapeutic to me, and getting to build vehicles and things that I operated or interacted with just makes it that much more special, especially as I transitioned out last year.

“I served four years in the Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Corporal with Berserker Company, 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment out of Kaneohe Bay, HI. My MOS was 0311 rifleman and I served in a rifle platoon for my first deployment, and moved to my Company’s Headquarters Platoon for my second deployment where I served as Operations NCO doing everything from clerical work to managing landing zones and airlifts. I completed two unit deployment programs to Okinawa, visiting Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Korea along the way as well as participating in RIMPAC in 2018.

We asked those participating in this month’s spotlights to submit photos of themselves, the work they’ve done, and their military LEGO collections. Find them in the gallery below!

A special thanks to all who participated in this year’s spotlights, and an additional thanks to all those helping raise money for the good people at the Minnesota Military Family Foundation. Brickmaniacs are truly the best fans in the world!
