The FlaK 38 was a 20mm automatic cannon used by German anti-aircraft units throughout World War II. It was the primary German light anti-aircraft gun and the most produced German artillery piece throughout the war. While designed for anti-aircraft use, its high rate of fire (220 rpm) proved deadly against enemy infantry and light armor. The FlaK 38 made prominent appearances in the movies Saving Private Ryan, U-571, Valkyrie and Red Tails.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the primary single-seat fighter plane used by Germany during World War II. Developed in the 1930’s to fulfill the fighter / interceptor role, it incorporated all of the features that would be considered state-of-the art for World War II. An all-metal mono-plane with a fully enclosed canopy, the Bf 109 would see continual upgrades as technology advanced and it’s roles increased on the battlefield and in the skies. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was widely produced and saw service for two decades after the close of World War II.

Among German troops, some of the best divisions were comprised of mounted units. Although it may seem odd in the modern day, horses were still used during the Great War to move soldiers into key positions on the battlefield. Given the stalemate of the Western Front, German lancers were more often deployed on the Eastern Front against Russia.
The WWI German Cavalry Lancer features artwork based on the M1915 field tunic, M1915 trousers, cavalry boots, Gewehr 98 ammo pouches, leather equipment belt and buckle, leather y-straps, and gas mask bag. About B-17G – WWII Heavy Bomber:
Among all the aircraft produced during the Second World War, bombers provided military planners with a new tool to wage war – the destruction of production facilities, cities, and military targets far behind enemy lines. The production of bomber aircraft and anti-aircraft weapons continued to evolve as the war continued. Among these massive machines, the B-17 “Flying Fortress” is one of the best-known American aircraft produced during the war.
In the early months of the war, it became apparent that large bombers would need some kind of protection from enemy fighter planes. Although bombers were commonly sent with escorts, the B-17 was designed to deal with enemy fighters on its own, deploying up to thirteen .50 caliber machine guns. When the B-17 reached its target, it could drop a maximum of 12,700 pounds of bombs.
Bomber crews suffered some of the highest casualty rates in the war. As ground-based anti-aircraft technology advanced, crews were often met with high-explosive shells. These shells would force shrapnel through the aircraft, injuring the crew inside. The B-17 often faced the well-seasoned Luftwaffe over Europe where crews struggled to defend themselves against the veteran German pilots. Nonetheless, the Flying Fortress and the men that crewed these ubiquitous aircraft would earn their place in history as legends in both the Pacific and European theaters of war.

Known for its rugged terrain, Australia has a long tradition of encouraging horsemanship and marksmanship. When the Great War broke out, Australia sent several light horse regiments to assist the Allies. Their mobility and crack rifle skills made them effective in open terrain, specifically in the Middle East against the Ottoman Turks. They would also provide excellent reconnaissance on the Western Front.
The WWI Australian Light Horse Infantry has artwork based on the Service Dress Jacket, jodhpurs, 1903 Pattern Bandolier, 1907 Pattern Bayonet, leather boots, and leather leggings.

Simply dressed and armed, Ottoman soldiers were often common people conscripted into military service. Plagued by dubious supply lines and poor medical access, these soldiers were often subjected to shortages and disease. The open terrain and lack of resources made for difficult conditions in the Middle East. Nonetheless, many Turkish soldiers served for the duration of the war until its end in 1918.
The WWI Ottoman Turk Infantry features artwork based on the Ottoman Turk uniform, puttees, leather ankle boots, German ammo pouches, German leather Y-straps, and the leather belt. The minifigure also includes a BrickArms Stahlhelm helmet.

About the PzKfz VI King Tiger:
Enormous in both size and myth, the Tiger II was developed for Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Known as the Konigstiger or “King Tiger”, its armor matched the Tiger I for thickness while using the same sloped design that was seen on the Panther medium tank. Although it was heavily equipped with highly effective 100-185 mm of front armor and a long barreled 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 anti-tank cannon, the Tiger II’s weight was ludicrous for its time. Weighing in at almost seventy tons, the Tiger II was plagued by mechanical breakdowns and high fuel consumption. Development for the tank started as far back as 1937. Both Henschel and Porsche were the final contenders for the Tiger II design with Henschel officially winning and subsequently producing all Tiger IIs.
The high cost and effectiveness of Allied bombing resulted in only 492 units ever being produced. For every Tiger II produced, the Soviet Union could produce roughly ten T-34/85 medium tanks. These disparate numbers effectively neutralized the Tiger IIs technical advantage. The King Tiger was also unsuited for blitzkrieg-style tactics with its short range and slow speed. Despite its shortcomings, the Tiger II was formidable when it actually made it into combat. The front armor was nearly impossible to penetrate and the 88mm gun allowed it to destroy Allied tanks with ease.
There are several surviving Tiger II units at museums across the world. One was recently discovered underneath a French road in 2000 and was partially excavated with plans to unearth the entire enormous vehicle.
