About the F-86F Sabre:
Following the Second World War, American engineers set to building aircraft using jet engines. Designed to combat the Soviet-built MiG-15, the F-86F Sabre employed the same “swept-back” wing design. This enabled the crack World War II American fighter pilots to successfully dogfight over the skies of Korea in an area known as “MiG Alley”. The Sabre’s exceptional dogfighting abilities places it as one of the best fighter jets of the twentieth century.
Equipped with a powerful General Electric J47-27 engine, the Sabre had a top speed of 690 mph. The Sabre was also equipped with six 0.5 Colt-Browning machine guns and had several options for hardpoints, such as air-to-air missiles or nuclear warheads.
The model features this legendary aircraft as it looked during the Korean War. Included with the kit is a custom-printed American pilot minifigure, a sliding canopy, and retractable landing gear. Also included are stickers and printed elements to give the Sabre an authentic 1950’s look.

About the M3A1:
The M3A1 Half-track was the main troop transport vehicle for the US Army armored infantry during World War II and the Korean War. The M3A1 Half-track was designed to carry an entire rifle squad and their equipment (they would often tow a trailer with equipment, fuel, water or ammunition). The M3A1 was fitted with an armored “pulpit” mount for its M2HB heavy machine gun and had three pintle mounts for additional machine guns. The M3A1 was the most advanced version of personnel carriers of the M3 Halftrack family, of which more than 40,000 of all types were manufactured during World War II.

The Chaffee was a light tank introduced at the end of World War II to replace the worn out and under-gunned M3/M5 Stuart tank. The Chaffee first saw action against the German Ardennes offensive—known today as the Battle of the Bulge. Lightly armored and fast, the M24 was a nimble scout vehicle that was armed with the same 75mm gun as the M4 Sherman tank. The M24 Chaffee was retired from US service after the Korean War, being replaced by the M41 Walker Bulldog. Around the world, Chaffees have soldiered on in other armed services to modern times. During the Vietnam War, the South Vietnamese Army effectively fielded Chaffee tanks that were left behind when the French Colonial Army withdrew in the late 1950s.

The Legendary Tiger
Of all the tank designs to reach a 20th Century battlefield, no other vehicle has attained such legendary and mythical status as the German Tiger heavy tank. Backed up by undeniable battlefield effectiveness, the Tiger’s mythos grew to legendary status and struck terror into the hearts of those faced with the challenge of defeating it.
The origins of the Tiger tank date back to 1937, when a 30-35 ton heavy tank was discussed by German planners. The idea was dropped in favor of the more lightweight and mobile Panzer III and IV series, which proved adequately effective against allied forces in Poland and France. When Hitler turned his forces against Russia, they were soon shocked to be faced against the formidable T-34 and KV-1 tanks, both closely guarded secret weapons up to that point. The Panzertruppen found themselves out-gunned, and facing certain defeat, unless they were equipped with more powerful weapons.
On Hitler’s orders, a new 55 ton heavy tank was to be produced, armed with an adaptation of the deadly 88mm anti-aircraft gun, and 100mm of frontal armor. The winning prototype was designed by Henschel (referred to as the Panzerkampfwagen VI, Tiger I Ausf H) and was ordered into production in July of 1942. While sequentially following the much sleeker Panther tank (Panzerkampfwagen V), the Tiger was clearly a throwback to earlier design work. Instead of sloping armor, the Tiger relied on shear brute strength of its armor for protection. This simplified design helped speed the Tiger into production, although not without such innovations as a semiautomatic transmission, a hydraulically powered turret, and power steering, which allowed the driver to steer with a wheel instead of a pair of brake levers.
The Tiger made it’s battlefield debut in September of 1942 and immediately proved effective at knocking out virtually any adversary well before itself was within effective range of opposing fire. The Tiger successfully served the Panzertruppen on all fronts on the European continent until the end of the war. The Tiger’s near invincibility against any other Allied armored vehicle instilled a fear known as “Tigerphobia” and reports of battlefield encounters with Tiger tanks were censored by British commanders to prevent panic amongst the troops.
While the Tiger (and its descendant Tiger II) was undoubtedly one of the most formidable weapons present at any battle in WW2, less than 2000 were produced due to it’s enormous material cost. Even though it was one of the greatest tanks of all time, achieving an unequaled legendary status in AFV history, it never reached the battlefield in sufficient numbers to the turn the tide of the war. Although inferior in almost every aspect, the mass-produced medium tanks of the Allies (Sherman and T-34) were deployed in sufficient numbers to overwhelm the limited number of German heavy tanks, even while suffering grievous losses to their own units.

About the MiG-15 – Russian Fighter Aircraft:
Technology developed during the Second World War brought the battle for air superiority to new levels. The outbreak of the Korean War caused the development of jet-powered fighter aircraft such as the MiG-15, once again changing the nature of air combat. The old, slow-moving bomber aircraft of World War II would become obsolete in the face of these new terrors.
Instead of simply mounting jet engines on the old propeller-driven airframe, Soviet engineers employed a swept-back wing design and horizontal stabilizers. This afforded the MiG-15 a top speed approaching the speed of sound and a climb-rate completely unseen before in aerial combat. This engineering feat was first seen in November of 1950 when a B-29 Superfortress was engaged by enemy aircraft that moved so fast it could not be identified. The MiG-15 was able to damage the Superfortress and escape their Lockheed F-80 escorts, who attempted to pursue the attacker with no success.
Lightly armed with two 23mm cannons and one 37mm cannon and a top speed of 668 mph, the MiG-15 was designated as a bomber interceptor. It was equipped with a Klimov VK-1 turbojet engine, making it all but impossible to be targeted by Superfortress defensive guns. It took the development of the F-86 Sabre by the United States to successfully combat the MiG-15 in the skies over Korea.
