When more heavily armored tanks were encountered in Russia, Pak 40 production was immediately ordered. The Pak 40 made its battlefield debut during the battle for Kharkov in May 1942. the PaK 40 was bigger and more powerful than its predesessors in every aspect, although it still had a remarkably low silhoutte, making it easy to conceal in spite of its increased size. The Pak 40 could defeat the armor of all but the heaviest Allied tanks up until the end of the war.

The Pak43 had an barrel length of 21 feet, giving it the incredible ability to penetrate 19 centimeters of armor at a reange of 1000 meters. The Pak43/L71 was produced in both the cruciform anti-aircraft mount and split tail mount typifying the dedicated anti-tank variation (designated Pak 43/41 L71). While the “88” was very effective against Allied armor, its large size made it less mobile and harder to hide than smaller Pak weapons.
