About the M1A1 155mm Howitzer:
The M1 155mm Howitzer was one of the main “heavy” guns used by the US Army during World War II (M1A1 specifically refers to the most common carriage type mated to the M1 Howitzer). This powerful weapon was to destroy buildings, entrenchments and moderately dug-in artillery pieces. Its high arcing fire made it ideal for neutralizing enemy in defilade positions. There were 163 battalions equipped with the 155mm howitzer during World War II, making it the third numerous type after the lighter 105mm and 75mm howitzers. It’s ability to fire a 100-pound shell in excess of 16,000 yards at eight rounds per minute gave the 155mm howitzer a more powerful punch than its smaller cousins. The effectiveness of the 155mm howitzer is often cited as a major factor in Allied victory in Europe and its modern-day equivalent (M777) still provides the back bone of US artillery support.

A veteran of both world wars, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel was a talented commander and known for his brilliant use of armor. Nicknamed “The Desert Fox”, Rommel was highly respected by both his colleagues and enemies. Although poorly supplied, Rommel eluded Allied commanders in North Africa and punished the inexperience of American troops. Rommel was popular among the German people during the war and still remains a popular figure today.

About the M4 Sherman:
Perhaps the best known Allied tank during World War II, the M4 Sherman was designed to replace the M3 Lee. Named for the eccentric William T. Sherman, Union general during the American Civil War, the Sherman medium tank was mass produced to help offset better armed German tanks such as the Tiger. The American war machine produced over 50,000 Sherman tanks. Although slightly underpowered, their overwhelming numbers were too much for Axis armor to handle.
The Sherman model was used for several dozen different variants. Among these variants, several were specialized for mine clearance, rocket battery, or as a self-propelled howitzer. The standard M4 Sherman was equipped with a Continental R975 gasoline-powered engine and could achieve a top speed of twenty-four miles per hour. Armed with three machine guns and a 75mm cannon, the Sherman could handle all but the heaviest German tanks.

The Panzer IV was the workhorse of the German armored forces during World War II. It saw action on all fronts and was continually upgraded throughout the war. Responding to developments in Allied armor, the Panzer IV Ausf F2 variant was the first to receive the long-barrel KwK 40 L/43 75mm cannon, which could fire a high velocity shell capable of knocking out the Russian T-34 and American M3 and M4 tanks. This gun remained the standard main armament on all subsequent models of the Panzer IV (Ausf F2 through J) and this configuration saw action in North Africa, the Mediterranean, Russia, and Western Europe.
