The Krupp Protze Kfz 70 was a 6-wheeled German truck and artillery tractor used heavily in WWII. It was used extensively on the Eastern Front, North African campaign, as well as in France and Sicily. The Protze was the mainstay of the infantry and towed Panzerjäger units in the first half of the war. Many different models of the Krupp Protze were produced during the war, serving as telephone trucks, radio mast carriers, and gun tractors. The Kfz 70 was the standard configuration, functioning as a personnel carrier.

The Nebelwerfer, which means “Smoke Thrower”, was a rocket launcher used by the Nebeltruppen. The launcher was portable, packing up to be towed behind a vehicle, with a range of 6,900 metres (7,500 yd) and its 6 barrels could be fired simultaneously. The Nebeltruppen functioned like the US Army’s Chemical Corps, using launchers to throw smoke, poison gas, and explosive weapons into enemy territory. Almost five and a half million 15 cm rockets and six thousand launchers were manufactured over the course of the war. The American soldiers in Sicily named the gun the “Screaming Mimi”, referencing the loud scream-like quality of the incoming artillery.

About the Schneider C.A. – WWI French Assault Tank:
In contrast with the sleek design and sophistication of modern tanks, tanks such as the Schneider C.A. (char d’assaut) may seem like something from another world. Early tank designs were simple in nature, often resulting in the boxy shapes seen during the First World War. The first tank designers were primarily concerned with trench-crossing and obstacle-clearing. Little thought was given to other features of the tank. Keeping this in mind, the Schneider was essentially an armored box on an unmodified Holt tractor suspension with a large, vertical “skid” on the front to help the tank cross trenches.
Like many first tank models, the Schneider performed poorly and suffered from several design flaws. Although equipped with the skid, the Schneider still struggled to cross the ever-widening trenches, getting stuck and becoming an easy target. First designs placed the fuel tanks on the front and provided them with inadequate armor. A single German round could cause the fuel tanks to erupt in flames.
Although the tank was retrofitted with more armor plating and the fuel tanks were moved to the rear, the Schneider was soon being replaced by tanks that performed better in no man’s land, such as the Renault FT 17. They were largely phased out of service soon after their debut in the Chemin des Dames offensive of April 1917. Of the 132 units available, only 56 survived the assault. The rest were either destroyed or had broken down. Several had penetrated German lines, but their lack of infantry support forced them to retreat. After the battle, the Schneider was largely withdrawn from major engagements and used for training or other purposes.

Although somewhat diminished, the use of cavalry continued through the First World War. Armed with a Lebel rifle and a lance, their mobility was an effective way to get troops into position to capture enemy trenches. After the realization that machine guns and barbed wire rendered charges ineffective, cavalry was often held in reserve, used in combination with tanks, or used for reconnaissance.
The WWI French Cavalry Lancer has artwork based on the M1905/15 ammo pouches, M1903/14 leather belt, M1892/14 Y straps “Bretelles de Suspension”, Horizon Blue M1915 Greatcoat, M1915 Horizon Blue wool trousers, MLE 93 Army shoe, leather cavalry shin guards, and the French ARS (Appareil Respiratoire Special) gas mask.
This minifigure also includes a LEGO™ Horse, Saddle, and Lance, and a texture-printed BrickArms™ Adrian Helmet.
This WWI French Cavalry Lancer features exclusive custom-printed artwork designed by Lando.

The mortar has been an essential piece of artillery equipment since humans have built machines to lob projectiles at buildings, fortifications and—of course—other humans. As warfare has become more fluid and mobile, the need for squad-portable mobile artillery increased dramatically. In the early 20th century this technology evolved into what we commonly know as the modern mortar. This generally consists of a small rocket-propelled explosive projectile, a launch tube, support base, and aiming bipod.
Brickmania is pleased to introduce an all-new deluxe mortar pack, containing our previously released heavy mortar, plus a custom printed BrickArms crate (printed same on both sides) and prototype BrickArms mortar shell.

About the WC54 Ambulance:
Deployed primarily during World War II and the Korean War, the WC54 Ambulance served as the primary transport vehicle for battlefield causalities. Although produced by American factories, the WC54 was deployed worldwide through the Lend-Lease Act and enjoyed popularity among Allied forces during the Second World War. It later served M.A.S.H. units during the Korean War. The WC54 would continue to see use through the 1960’s.
Although it was designated as an ambulance, few soldiers were ever treated inside the vehicle. Soldiers were often treated before they entered the vehicle, or later at a battlefield hospital, depending on the severity of their injuries. The WC54 was marked as a medical vehicle under the Geneva Convention with a large red cross and a white background. These markings were designed to prevent the ambulance from taking enemy fire under international law, however, this didn’t always work as intended as the WC54 was a front-line vehicle.
