About the Panzer III

Designed to be Germany’s tanks for fighting other tanks, the Panzer III saw it’s successful battlefield debut during the invasion of Poland. It proved to be a reliable and wining design and was continually upgraded and refined throughout the war. There are lots of nice “extra” features such the new 1.5 wide Brickmania Track Links, a BrickArms MG-34 on the anti-aircraft mount (in addition to the one in the hull), accessible interior spaces (upper and lower hull sections separate to reveal the interior), and more.

Restock: LCVP “Higgins Boat” (2017 Edition)

2172Action-Webcard-710

Background on the LCVP “Higgins Boat”:

Considered by historians as key to Allied victory, the LCVP “Higgins” Boat was a simple design capable of placing men and material where they were needed. Prior to the Higgins, landing troops via amphibious assault was dangerous, slow, and ineffective. Previous designs fared poorly in shallow water and required soldiers to jump over the side of their craft.

Although it was poorly received by the Navy, Louisiana businessman and boat-builder Andrew Higgins designed a boat that could operate in just three feet of water while carrying 8,000 pounds of cargo, thirty-six men, or twelve men and a Jeep. The design was simple – a boxy shape with an open top and a large, wide ramp that allowing soldiers or Jeeps to deploy quickly. Much of the boat was mahogany, a light and durable sub-tropical wood that allowed the boat to return to the sea after deploying its cargo.

The Higgins arrived at precisely the right time. In the Pacific theater, amphibious assaults would be key to capturing islands from Japanese forces. In Europe, these assaults would be required to liberate both Italy and France. When Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, they deployed from over 800 of these landing craft. There are several famous images with Army Rangers deploying on Omaha Beach from the Higgins boat. This scene was also depicted in the award-winning film Saving Private Ryan, granting modern audiences a realistic look at the struggle by Allied forces.

Many of the Allied commanders used the Higgins extensively, resulting in over 20,000 to be produced during the war period 1941-1945. The US military continued to use the basic Higgins design in future generations of amphibious landing craft.

New Release: Korean War US Army MASH Doctor

307-Action-Webcard-710

As the need for doctors grew in Korea, the Army turned to civilian draftees to fill the M.A.S.H. units across the peninsula. The use of medevac helicopters such as the H-13 Sioux assured a continuous stream of causalities from the front. These doctors often worked long and irregular hours, sometimes under the threat of enemy fire. Alongside the Army nurses, their tireless work contributed to a drastic cut in death rates among wounded soldiers.

The Korean War US Army M.A.S.H. Doctor features artwork based on the US Army MASH Uniform, M-1948 Russet Combat Boots, Identification Tags, Rieger-Bowles Binaural Combination Stethoscope, and comes with a martini glass for an after-hours drink.

This Korean War US Army MASH Doctor features exclusive custom-printed artwork designed by Lando.

New Release: Starship Red Shirt

288-Action-Webcard-710

Long multi-year missions to explore the galaxy are risky. The most dangerous posts on any starship are those in Operations. The ‘red shirt’ crew members of Operations serve in Security, Engineering, and Tactical Operations, and frankly, they are the expendable phaser fodder of a ship’s crew. Red shirts are always first into combat and first to get disintegrated. They are always closest to the exploding conduit and inevitably the ones who discover the lethal nature of the planetary flora while on the away mission. Every starship requires vast numbers of red shirts. This ensures that essential bridge crew will always survive and that replacement red shirts are readily available for the next trip to the surface.

This figure features:

  • Custom digitally printed front, back, arms with a two-printed face
  • Includes a BrickArms® Overmolded Reloaded Classic Photon Pistol

This Starship Red Shirt features exclusive custom-printed artwork designed by John Canepa.

New Release: H-13 Sioux “M.A.S.H.” Helicopter

1027-Action-Webcard-710

About the H-13 Sioux “M.A.S.H.” Helicopter:

Featured in the popular 80’s TV show “M*A*S*H*”, the Bell-47 (H-13 Sioux) helicopter served as a medevac unit. Carrying wounded soldiers from the front lines to a local MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) during the Korean War, these helicopters could carry two people on external litters and accommodate two in the cockpit. The helicopter had relatively simple controls and a compact instrument panel, giving the pilot an excellent range of vision. Due to the primitive roads (or lack thereof) in the mountainous terrain of Korea, the H-13 could safely and quickly transport casualties to any local M.A.S.H. unit for treatment. Aside from medevac duties, the H-13 served in reconnaissance and some minor gunship roles.

These helicopters were also widely used in the civilian world. President Dwight Eisenhower was the first to make use of the new invention by making the Bell 47 his personal helicopter. It has also been used for emergency services around the country, including the assistance of firefighters when they are combatting forest fires. Further civilian use includes crop-dusting and use by the news media.
