About the M7B1 Priest – 105mm Howitzer Motor Carriage:
The M7 Priest was an American self-propelled artillery vehicle produced during WWII. Witnessing the events of the war, U.S. Army observers realized that they would need a self-propelled artillery vehicle with sufficient firepower to support armored operations. The pilot vehicles used the M3 chassis with an open-topped superstructure, mounting an M1A2 105 mm howitzer, and following trials, adding a machine gun. As the M4 Sherman tank replaced the M3, it was decided to continue production using the M4 chassis. The British had logistical problems with the M7, as it used U.S. ammunition that was not compatible with other British guns and had to be supplied to units.
During the Battle of the Bulge, each U.S. armored division had three battalions of M7s, giving them unparalleled mobile artillery support. To maintain a low silhouette, the howitzer’s elevation had to be restricted to 35°. In British service, some M7s carried a radio set, which required the removal of 24 rounds of ammunition.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the primary single-seat, piston engined fighter plane used by Germany during World War II. Developed in the 1930’s to fulfill the fighter / interceptor role, it incorporated all of the features that would be considered state-of-the art for World War II. An all-metal mono-plane with a fully enclosed canopy, the Bf 109 would see continual upgrades as technology advanced and it’s roles increased on the battlefield and in the skies. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the most produced fighter aircraft design of all time and saw service for two decades after the close of World War II.

These soldiers were the backbone of communist forces when they invaded South Korea in 1950. Allying themselves with China and the Soviet Union, these soldiers waged a short, brutal conflict against the UN-backed South. The Korean War would be the first of many conflicts during the Cold War. These soldiers still stand guard at the DMZ today, staring down their South Korean adversaries and preparing for the next conflict.

About the GAZ 67 – General Purpose 4×4:
Designed after the American Bantam/Willys “Jeep”, the Gaz-67 was deployed by the Red Army in 1943 at the height of World War II. This vehicle was reliable in cold climates, performing well on the Eastern Front. Not only a passenger vehicle, the Gaz was also used for towing anti-tank guns to and from the front. The Gaz-67 was also deployed with communist forces during the Korean War.
This standard utility vehicle had an optional canopy, which is featured on the Brickmania model with our premium fabric. The model also includes stickers for both Russian and North Korean markings. Riding in the Gaz is a custom-printed Minifigure armed with a BrickArms PPSH sub-machine gun.

About the M46 Patton – Cold War Medium Tank:
Considered the first “Main Battle Tank”, the M46 Patton was designed to replace the aging World War II-era M4 Sherman and M26 Pershing. When communist forces invaded South Korea in 1950, they fielded the iconic Soviet-built T-34/85. The United States responded with the Patton, packing a punch with a 90mm main cannon and three machine guns. The M46 was also better suited for the mountainous Korean terrain by having a better power-to-weight ratio than its predecessors. The M46 and its future generations continued to see use through the Vietnam War.
The M46 Patton was produced in small numbers (800+) compared to the mass tank production of the Second World War. An improvement on the underpowered M26 Pershing, the M46 had some limited success. Although designers updated the engine to better suit the tank, most causalities were still due to mechanical problems. Some of this may have been due to the rough terrain of the Korean Peninsula. In combat, the M46 was effective against enemy armor, facing World War II-era Soviet T-34/76 and T-34/85 in limited numbers. The Soviet medium tank had significant trouble against the much-heavier and better armed M46.
The M46 is often seen in popular culture with a “tiger” design on the front of the tank, an attempt at psychological warfare. Legend has it that this was intended to draw on superstition surrounding tigers by the Chinese. The M46 was also deployed with a dozer variant, allowing the tank to clear obstacles. After the Korean War, several M46’s were retained along the DMZ to help enforce the truce. Soon replaced by the much-improved M47 Patton, the remaining M46’s were used primarily across Europe for training purposes. The Patton line continued to see success serving as a main battle tank for the US military until it was replaced by the M1 Abrams in the 1980’s.

“Easy Eight” was the nickname for the final World War II production model of the famous American Sherman Tank. It’s official designation is the M4A3E8(76)W which denotes the following features: Welded steel hull, Ford GAA V8 gasoline engine, horizontal volute spring suspension, 23-inch wide tracks, 76mm main gun in a T-23 turret, and “wet” ammunition stowage. While never designed to battle heavy German armor, this model was far more capable than the original Sherman tanks rolled out just three years earlier. The “Easy Eight” was the only Sherman to remain in American service following World War II and it would see further action on the Korean Peninsula supporting UN forces. The “Easy Eight” was also the basis of the famous Israeli “Super Shermans” which saw action well into the 1970’s. More than 49,000 Sherman Tanks were built during World War II. Many thousands were distributed to the Allies through the Lend-Lease program.
