It’s not so quiet on the Western Front as the sounds of armored vehicles can be heard through the darkened forests. In preparation for the looming cataclysm we are offering up one more batch of the StuG III Ausf G —the final version of Germany’s most produced assault gun / tank destroyers of World War II.
Here are the basic facts:
A 1/35 scale model of this final version of Germany’s most widely used assault gun and tank destroyer from World War II. The Ausf G was the most common later war production model, featuring the same high velocity long-barrel 75mm gun used in the Panzer IV tank. Other distinctive features of the Ausf G version include a roof-mounted MG42 machine gun with armored shield and the side “skirts” for extra protection against anti-tank rifles and shaped charge weapons.

Brickmania will be hosting a mosaic build at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts on October 17th, part of MIA’s free Third Thursday “Nerd Thursday” hands-on art exhibition. We will be copying Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting “Olive Trees” from the museum’s collection as a large-scale LEGO mosaic. We will need as much help as we can get to complete the 29,760 stud mosaic in the three hours the event runs! While at the MIA you can check out the rest of the Nerd Thursday highlights, including video game tourneys, news junky quiz, live music, Being Geek Chic photo booth, and more.
Did we mention that Summit is the official beer of this event?

The DShK was the Soviet Union’s main heavy machine gun during World War II, firing a 12.7mm cartridge comparable to the Browning M2 .50 caliber. The gun was mass produced starting in 1938 and was issued to Soviet infantry units on a wheeled mounting equipped with armor plate shield. This mount encorporated a tripod base that allowed the weapon to be coverted to anti-aircraft use, after removing the wheels and the shield. A modernized version (DShM) is still in use today and can be seen on a variety of Russian armored vehicles.
