LEGO Van Gogh! “Olive Trees” Mosaic Project Completed!

Lego Van Gogh

Completed mosaic hanging at Brickmania Toyworks

Brickmania staff and members of the Twin Cities Lego Train Club organized a group build of Vincent Van Gogh’s  “Olive Trees with Yellow Sky and Sun,” from the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The build took place over two evenings in the fall of 2013 at the MIA’s “Nerd Thursday” event and Brickmania Toyworks’ First Thursday open house. The 48″ x 60″ mosaic was built on 120 small baseplates and containing an approximately  25-30,000 LEGO pieces. Assembly of the mosaic was completed in about five hours, thanks to the multitude of people who turned up to help out. The finished work is now on display at Brickmania Toyworks, where several other large mosaic pieces are also on display.

Re-vamped Panzer IV Ausf G Kit & Custom Panzer Commander Minifig

291_PanzerIV_AusfGcover560

Brickmania is pleased to release a new version of the Panzer IV Ausf G —a total remake of Dan’s Panzer IV Ausf G kit originally released in 2009. The main improvements include a new hull, track geometry and turret, which are all redesigned to give more accurate scale representation. Other minor improvements were made to take advantage of the release of newer elements from LEGO and BrickArms. The Panzer IV was the most produced Axis tank during World War II and this long-gunnned version is ideal for all mid to late war dioramas. Panzer IV

The new Panzer IV has all the playability of the original kit, including a fully rotating turret, posable main gun, and three opening hatches.

Panzer Commander

To coincide with the new Panzer IV kit, Brickmania has produced our own custom-designed Panzer Commander mini figure. One of these figures is included in the kit, but we are also selling them individually for those interested in filling out the ranks of their Panzertruppen.

M18 Hellcat is Back. Now includes BrickArms M2HB!

241_M18_Hellcat_CoverV2560

We’ve combed the world to find all the pieces necessary for one more small batch of this incredibly popular kit from early 2011. We have made one small change to the kit, being the inclusion of BrickArms’ M2HB machine gun. The M18 Hellcat was not only the fastest armored vehicle of World War II, but it’s also practically impossible for us to keep in stock. Get yours before it’s gone for good!

Brickmania Track Links Progress Report: First Test Runs Made!

Brickmania Track Links

We’re happy to report our tool maker has done what others said could not be done! Yesterday morning we received our first test runs of actual Brickmania Track Links and we absolutely love them! The tool maker is going to continue testing and refinement work on the molds over the next couple of weeks. We do not have an exact date on when full scale production will start, but we’re on the home stretch now, and just mere weeks before mass quantities will be in our possession.  The nice thing is our production facility is just a few hours away, so we’ll be able to receive the parts from the factory without any shipping delays. Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, check out the photos of some of our vehicles with the new Brickmania Track Links installed…

Brickmania Track Links™ Update – “I should have parts to you before Thanksgiving”

Kickstarter Instructions

Brickmania Track Links prototype models “build tested” to the instructions.

Good news!  We’ve been assured by the tool makers that our molds should be up and running by the end of the month. There’s no promise that they will immediately be production-ready, but our tool maker is confident that only minor tweaking —if any—will be necessary.  While this may be overly optimistic, we are working under the assumption that everything is finally going to come together in as early as a few weeks. All of the kit instructions have been build-tested (see above), finalized and a ready for reproduction. Likewise, the US Tanker and German soldier minifigs are going to the pad printers this week. The kits are all assembled and just waiting for tracks and figures. Every day we are a little closer to this project being completed and it’s pretty darned exciting!

Now that your hopes have all been raised, I should temper my enthusiam with a dose of reality. It’s possible there could be problems which won’t be discovered until the first parts are run. This could set us back some additional time, depending on how much tweaking needs to be done and the schedule of the tool makers  Also, we’ve ordered two different parts in three different colors. The injection molding machines can crank out several links at a time, but keep in mind we’re talking hundreds of thousands of links to make, and this could take some time before we have all the links in all the colors.  I can assure you we’ll be shipping out backer pledges as soon as we can, but there’s still a lot of variables that can set things back. Therefore, I would strongly caution against anticipating your pledge reward arriving before the holidays!

As always, thanks for your support and patience.

Dan
